Weight gain and Endometriosis #ENDOCHAMPIONS

An endometriosis patient may not directly gain weight from the disease point of view per se but most indirect factors contribute to abrupt weight gain among several women suffering from endometriosis.

Personally, I have struggled a lot due to the weight gain I get time and again due to endometriosis and its medication and I get trapped in the vicious circle so often.

Endometriosis is associated with elevated estrogen levels in women which can cause severe bloating and weight gain. Also since the endometrial tissue grows outside the uterus as well in Endometriosis patients with this disorder where often have a big belly known as the endo belly. While the tissues lined up inside the uterus shed in every menstrual cycle but the one outside of uterus the there, increasing the overall thickness.

Also, the most common treatment for endometriosis known as hormone therapy is known to cause severe weight gain as well as it interferes with and slows down the metabolic rate of several patients.

Similarly, the amount of sleep deprivation this disease makes you prone to, our lifestyle and exercise cycle goes for a complete toss and if one already has a hereditary weight gain tendency like me, pounds just get added at the drop of a hat no matter how disciplined I try to be I feel I am always missing the boat.

The worst part is an increase in weight aggravates the symptoms of endometriosis and the pain in particular gets further unbearable and so we need the medication which in turn will further lead to an increase in weight.

This is the bitter truth I have been living with for the past twelve years. Though I lose a lot of weight by maintaining a very strict discipline one episode of endometriosis pain takes away my zeal and leaves me morose.

That is why I highlighted in my last three articles of this series on the Endometriosis Self Management Plan and the importance of being happy in an endo patient’s life.

Weight is our enemy and we have to keep striving to keep it at bay.

You too can become an #ENDOCHAMPION and help us spread awareness about this whole body inflammation by sharing our posts and connecting with anyone in need. Trust me together we can make a big difference because this disease and its ignorance can be really harsh and as a patient, I myself have contemplated suicide several times and would like to save many others from the agony. You can join the support group by clicking here: Endometriosis Awareness and Support Group India

If not anything else just by letting them share their pain with us, we can soothe them. I will be grateful for any support from you on this. You can read my EndoJourney here:
