Detailed Diagnosis of Endometriosis in India #ENDOCHAMPIONS

When I was telling you yesterday about endometriosis treatments available in India, I realized I must talk about the most difficult aspect of endometriosis which is its diagnosis.

Will you believe I consulted several top doctors in Gurgaon, Delhi, and Pune for over a decade for the baffling pain which made me cry every single night despite popping painkillers and hormonal pills?

These had further worse side effects like severe weight gain. My mental health too often hit rock bottom when some doctors told me that my pain is psychological or is my way to torture my husband. Eventually, I started believing them and cried in silence when no one saw me trying my best to hide my pain until I passed out one day outside my son’s school and did not come to my senses for ten long minutes. When I did I held my little one’s hand and quietly walked back home. Thereafter such incidences increased and my husband searched frantically for some very experienced doctors in Pune; luckily I found one who could diagnose the disease within minutes of examining me. I will be indebted to her for life for treating me like her own daughter.

So below are how Endometriosis can be adequately diagnosed,

Thorough Pelvic Exam

A senior gynecologist can correlate your symptoms to your pelvic health by examining you at length. To be sure she will recommend some blood tests like CA125 and ultrasounds and MRIs to know the extent of the disease.

Full Pelvic USG

A thorough ultrasound is mandatory to know the endometrial thickness and what organs have been affected already so that the doctor can prescribe the medication accordingly at the earliest.

MRI

An MRI is the most certain way to the damage caused by this disease already and to which organs. It also guides the surgeons during laparoscopic surgery to remove non-malicious growth inside of the uterus like Adenomyoma or during hysterectomy.

Laparoscopy

Sometimes laparoscopic scans are done by experts to know the extent of the disease. My experience with laparoscopic surgery was rather painful and I will share it soon in another post of this series.

The above all are done periodically to access the health of the patient and if there is any improvement due to the medication or if the disease is deteriorating.

This disease acts differently from patient to patient and hence the treatment varies too. It is always advisable to be in the hands of a trustworthy gynecologist and abide by all her advice.

Whether you are taking Allopathic Homeopathic or Ayurvedic medicines the above are the tests that help in 100% ascertaining if you have the condition and if yes to what extent.

Thus, if you or your daughter or sister or any woman you know has debilitating periods pain and/or bleeding the above tests must be conducted at the earliest to comfort you as well preventing the disease from aggravating to infertility and certain cancers.
