I can’t tell you how triggered I feel when today I realize the amount of harm the hormonal pills, infections, and surgeries I have had for endometriosis have done to my body in the last 12 years.
When I was younger I didn’t realize the harm but still can’t decide whether the disease causes more harm to us or the medication we take for it because I do need the medicines to keep my symptoms at bay.
Today I want to talk to you about two secondary but most bothersome repercussions of chronic endometriosis witnessed in patients. They are sleep deprivation and fatigue.
Since endometriosis is a full-body chronic inflammatory disease our body so much energy fighting it, thus an endometriosis patient is in a state of having constant fatigue which makes her irritable and unable to get out of bed. Also sometimes our bleeding runs for weeks and months and we become anemic which also causes severe fatigue just by doing little things. Often we get up so tired as if we climbed a mountain in our sleep.
Also, the acute pain prevents us from catching quality sleep which adds to our woes. Well, the importance of sound sleep cannot be highlighted enough for the proper functioning of the human body, and sleep deprivation for days, months, and years together can mess up so badly with our lives.
Both of the above may sound trivial but trust me they take a toll on our health. Not only it has a severely adverse impact on our physical health but on our mental health too. We start avoiding going out, meeting people, and doing things that give us joy and feel morose just wanting to be in bed all the time.
Not only is our mental health affected our families too bear a strong impact on our perennial unwell health. I remember I had to ask my spouse to drive back home midway when we were out for a family dinner as the unbearable pain made me cry inconsolably in the car.
After that, for months I could not summon up the courage to step into my car for I may ruin a perfect outing for everyone.
The debate to pop a Combiflam or not, because only that gave relief to my pain, was perennial. My gynecologist has strictly that I have already had my quota of painkillers one can have in a lifetime and if I didn’t stop I will be threatening my life but did I have a choice. I often popped one so that I could sleep and the fatigue and lack of sleep did not overpower me early morn when I must ready the little kid for school.
Fortunately last year I started an Ayurvedic painkiller called Vatari Ras with Cannabis in it which really helped me cope so well with my pen. It played a great role in saving me from the traditional painkillers I popped like candies. Later I researched and found out about Cannabis can be really effective in endometriosis. It has given me my sleep back and the fatigue is a lot better. I wish I had known about it years ago. By the way, Cannabis is addictive too, and currently, I am working on reducing its dosage.
