Chapter12
Aaradhya got up early that day and prayed. They had to meet Dr. Pradhan. She had a sleepless night trying to shoo off all the negative thoughts that engulfed her but as is their tendency, they didn’t abandon her that easily...
They had reached the hospital early. What was heartening is that Shamit looked absolutely healthy, a tall, fair and handsome young man clad in a black Pathani suit. Looking at him no one could say, the very next moment his life was going to change forever. But such is life.
Well, Aradhya’s hunch did turn out to be true. Shamit was diagnosed with a rare heart condition. It would have been treated through medicines had it been detected earlier but such ailments often get detected only after the heart gets weak and the symptoms start surfacing.
He would require immediate surgery for it followed by a careful lifestyle with minimum physical exertion, the right diet, and the least mental stress for his entire life.
Both of them were speechless to hear what Dr. Pradhan had just shared but cared more for the pain of the other, so tried to put their bravest foot forward.
Aaradhya had composed herself immediately trying to assimilate the situation and trying to figure out how to tackle it best while Shamit draped himself in his ‘All is Well’ happy attitude with a lot of difficulties though he wasn't sure how long he would be able to pull it through.
He had finally forwarded his reports to his superiors in the Army. He loved his work but was left with no other choice than to abandon it. This had hurt him deeply and he had not been eating and sleeping well.
This had deteriorated his health. He needed time to adjust to how his life has suddenly taken a sharp u-turn. He felt broken and had it not been Aaradhya he would not have this strong desire to live. Aaru in turn was doing everything to cheer up her man though she steered clear of preachy lectures to him.
She behaved with him very normally just like a newlywed would speak to her spouse. The fact that she herself is a doctor did help though. She could take a stock of the situation a little better always. I felt so proud, she had kept her head firmly on her shoulders in such a difficult situation.
In the coming week, Shamit was admitted to the hospital for surgery. By God’s grace, the operation was successful and he was recovering well at the hospital. His mom and Aaru were cracking jokes next to him as if nothing had happened.
They were waiting for him to come back home ensuring to make it all the more comfortable for him. His utmost care was their first and foremost priority.
In due course of time, after recovering well at the hospital, Shamit was back home, in his room, sitting next to his Radha.
There were many important decisions to be made and he wanted his better half to contribute to his thought process. He needed to redefine his life goals in accordance with what his health permits.
In the period that he was away, Aaru had reworked their room and got it extended to gift back her Sham his painting corner. She always knew his love for painting was eternal and gave his heart, most joy, and contentment.
Shamit had been overwhelmed with all that Radha was doing for him. A glance at his masterpieces blew life back in him. Holding his brushes in his hands, he had tears welled up in his eyes.
“Thank you, Radha! You make my heart smile. I really owe my life to you, my love. What would I do without you?”
He hugged her. Aaradhya has missed his warm embrace. She placed her head on his shoulder.
“Without me? Why will you ever be without me? I am going to be there with you forever. For me, your love is my life. We will be together come what may! “
I wonder how God became so unjust to such a cute innocent couple, I feel he tests his most beloved people the most. I could have never imagined then that Shamit will be able to live somewhere away from Aaru for over seven years...
