Just imagine removing our alma mater from our life so far, do we even have an idea what we would have become without them? No, I never wrote about them till now and it’s a mistake... The fact is, we take them for granted and forget how vital a role they have played in shaping us. Only yesterday one of my blogger buddies left a heartfelt comment on my blog where I had mentioned I am an alumnus of Pantnagar University, for she was born and brought up in Pantnagar too. You won’t believe what an immediate connect it established between the two of us. Such heart-warming are our memories of our schools, colleges and universities. They not only enrich your life with education but with innumerable teachers and friends for life. They aren’t mere roofs, but your home away from home for years. They etch in your heart the first lessons of handling the huge and crazy world and look it straight into its eyes. I completed my schooling in several schools(pardon me, I may not be able to fit the name of all my schools here but I bow my head in deep gratitude to all of them) thanks to dad's frequent transfers and finally got admission in an engineering college where I found a fix base for at least for 4 years.

Yes, I am a Pantnagarian, that’s how we proudly say, each one of us, no matter how many years have passed, from when it equipped us in spreading our wings in the professional universe. I entered this university eons back to pursue my engineering as a bubbling teenager but left it as a more humbled and understanding human being. What should I tell you about it, it’s a calm, serene and lush green little, cosy town which actually feels like it is some years back in time. It is situated very near to the hill station Nainital and the climate is generally cool. Students and professors all move around on bicycles and the only mode of other transport is manual rickshaw in most cases. Not an iota of pollution or city life touches it. It is a pure temple of education. I am not sure how it is now 15 years later but the love that oozes our of my heart every time I hear it’s name is undoubtedly the same and I am sure it wouldn't have changed much either.

I was a very non trusting person till I came to Pantnagar. I liked to live in my own world, either studying or engaging in literary or oratory activities, my forever loves. No it wasn’t arrogance, I was and am just like that, I can go on for months with zero social life within my own shell. I had but one flaw, I doubted the intention of every guy who approached me in a friendly manner. Call it the my weird hormonal changes or simply because I didn’t want a distraction in my life. So when ‘S’ approached me for doing a Research Paper together in IIT Delhi, I was sceptical if he is being a spy for his friend who for some reason wasn’t really fond of me. Yes, it was never love at first sight for us😊. But my heart said he is a good guy and so I said yes and the rest is history.

I travelled with him to Delhi and then to IIT Kanpur and BHU and was touched by his pure heart and kind nature. His sense of humour and calm demeanour anchored the short tempered me. I enjoyed his precious company in the calm and pristine environment of Pantnagar. Don’t remember when we started spending most of our day together. Library was one place where our love bloomed but was never ever expressed from either side. No one not even either of us could imagine our unison then for not only were we physically ill matched, he is six feet three inches tall and I am five one but we had a vast difference in our nature as well as our family backgrounds😛. Chalk and cheese would fare better in front of us in terms of how opposite we were or in fact are to each other. Only thing that kept us going was the fact both of us are good and simple human beings and our goodness and smiles bonded us into a deep friendship, it indeed was the fragrance of true love but we took years to accept it. Oops, I had started writing about my alma mater and don’t know when I accidentally ventured into our love story...but the fact is S is the best gift after of course my job in Tata Motors through campus placements that Pantnagar gave me ♥️ and I will forever be indebted to it for everything!

To be continued in the next parts of #SlicesofLife Series on #TrulyYoursRoma in #AtoZChallenge this April.  I am writing on some extraordinary slices from my ordinary life.

Thank you so much for all the love and support you have always given me. Truly Yours Roma is nothing without you!
